There are a number of excellent hotels at Clearwater Beach and along the barrier island archipelago that stretches down the coast to St. Pete Beach.

The islands are connected to the mainland by a series of bridges, some of which can become quite congested with traffic.

Hotels situated along the barrier islands are notoriously expensive, particularly those that face the beach. Consequently, many tourists to Florida find accommodation on the mainland where rates are lower.

There are many reasonably priced hotels around Tampa airport, however, it is quite a long drive from there to the Florida coast.
